Girls Inc. Honored by the NYS Legislature for 85+ Years of Impact

Albany, NY [May 8, 2025]: In a powerful moment of statewide recognition, Girls Inc. of the Greater Capital Region was honored earlier today by the New York State Legislature for its 85+ year legacy of inspiring all girls to be strong, smart, and bold.

A Senate resolution, introduced by Senator Pat Fahy, and an Assembly proclamation issued by Assemblymember Gabriella Romero, celebrated the organization’s decades of work championing leadership and opportunity for all girls across the Capital Region. The honors were given during Girls Inc. Week, a yearly event where the Girls Inc. Network of 75 Affiliates across the United States and Canada, galvanize around an issue important to girls. This year girls selected the theme of mental health.

“This recognition from our state leaders means the world to our girls, our staff, and our growing community,” said Ashli Fragomeni, CEO of Girls Inc. of the Greater Capital Region. “To have the New York State Legislature uplift the voices and accomplishments of our girls and to affirm that their leadership, growth, and future matter, is a moment we will never forget.”

As part of the experience, Girls Inc. of the Greater Capital Region girls and staff were welcomed into both chambers, where they observed the legislative process firsthand and celebrated their contributions to the local community.

Assemblymember Romero emphasized the power of opportunity and community: “Girls Inc. of the Greater Capital Region is inspiring the next generation of young women to chase their dreams and spark change. From education to advocacy, young women in the Capital Region have access to incredible opportunities through Girls Inc., and it’s a transformative force for good in our community.”

This recognition was made possible through the pro bono support of Carrie Harring, Director of Government Affairs at Statewide Public Affairs and a member of the affiliate’s Council of Women for Girls. Carrie and her team helped bring the recognition to life through months of partnership with the Girls Inc. GCR team, Senator Fahy, and Assemblymember Romero.

“It is an exciting honor to see Girls Inc. of the Greater Capital Region recognized by the New York State Legislature for the transformative work they do every day to inspire all girls to be strong, smart, and bold,” said Carrie. “As both a volunteer and a proud advocate, I’ve witnessed firsthand the impact of this organization on the lives of young women across our state. This recognition is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we invest in the potential of girls.”

The Senate resolution becomes part of the official state record, while the Assembly proclamation reflects individual legislative support. Together, they mark a symbolic and strategic milestone for the organization, affirming its legacy, amplifying its mission, and supporting the continued growth of its Teen Advocacy Council.
