Thanks to the generous financial support of M&T Bank, a third cohort of participants joined the Girls Inc. Eureka! program at SUNYIT’s CNSE. This free, five-year science program, which begins the summer before 8th-grade, has grown to a total enrollment of 77. We greatly appreciate SEFCU and RBC Wealth Management, generous sponsors of the program’s first and second years, respectively.
Girls in the inaugural cohort are now in 10th grade and last summer, completed their first four-week STEM-focused (science, technology, engineering, and math) summer internships with businesses and organizations in the Capital Region.
For creating internship opportunities, providing a stipend, or both, we sincerely thank these local organizations and businesses:
1st Playable, AIDS Council of NENY, Albany County Family Court, Austin’s School of Spa Technology, CMOST, Ellis Hospital,
Grace Fellowship, Guilderland Chamber of Commerce, Meier Law Firm PLLC, SEFCU, SUNY Research Foundation, and Windstream Communications.
In the Fall, Eureka participants explored activities at both CNSE’s NANOvember Community Day and miSci’s Science Festival. They participated in GE Technology Day, and studied self-esteem and body image with members of the UAlbany Black Students’ Alliance. In December, the Fall program concluded with chromatography, social networking activities, nail polish chemistry, and workshops in career exploration and resumes.
All Eureka! students participate in a STEM-related activity each month.
